I love tik tok and I think you would thrive on it once you find your community. I use the block button liberally. It is a time suck though. I've been considering putting parental controls on my own phone for tik tok specifically. I have found soooooo much creative inspiration through following artists and watching people get dressed on the app. Also - One of my favorite memes rn that's been circulating tik tok "Don't kill the part of you that is cringe. Kill the part of you that cringes."

I always say I have social (media) anxiety. It can be really fun and exciting, but it really is such a time suck and I have a really hard time not playing the comparison game, especially with Instagram. I do, however LOVE TikTok! I usually hate creepy algorithms but I love that I can pretty much always count on being entertained when I open the app. Such an interesting topic! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The comparison game is the worst and honestly what fuels all this back and forth I have about putting myself out there on the internet! I've been waiting for this day lol!! I think being on TikTok has been an interesting mental exercise to say the least. There are so many different types of humans sharing content for an endless amount of reasons. I like TikTok for the creators who are there just to connect with folks about niche topics or to share their life experiences, post-the most isolating collective experience in recent history. Though as soon as someone sounds condescending or too "influencer-y" I quickly scroll. I mainly stay for the history nerd stuff, outfit inspo, and quick laughs tbh. But that's also primarily what TikTok serves me up these days - that's how they getcha!
This all makes complete sense! I think it comes back to the whole "the internet doesn't have to be serious or complicated." You can express yourself in video format in an online matter in the modern world because that's what tickles your fancy and fuck the rest -- it's a good reminder and one that I need to hear often.
