Happy Tuesday, friends! This note will be short and sweet with the promise of Thursday’s newsletter being one of excitement and lots o’ vintage goodies. Without further ado, I would like to announce that I am, in fact, rebranding.
As of Thursday, Junior Year will now be 🔥 Trash Panic 🔥
Junior Year was born out of confusion, depression, and the claustrophobia of coming out of the pandemic. She has served me well— an outlet that helped me realize vintage and secondhand goodies make my heart go pitter pat in a way I just can’t ignore. When I wrote my newsletter a few weeks back about how I very much have nightmares about trash panic, inspiration struck.
Trash Panic will narrow in on my hope to inspire anyone who comes across this corner of the internet to change one small habit in their consumption and consider buying something secondhand, potentially saving it from ending up in a landfill. There will still likely be some of the same existential musings about navigating 30-something life, but the focus will be on curated collections of cool shit from around the internet that deserve a new chapter of life and a place to call home. Thrift hauls, antique fair vlogs, continuing our series of building a secondhand wardrobe, learning how to shop on eBay and the Real Real, and maybe even some curated drops of vintage I myself have sourced just for you! The possibilities feel endless and very, very exciting. I’m already thinking about Thriftmas…..
I think it’s important to mention that the topic of used goods is and likely always will be political and flawed. (“Something something no ethical consumption under capitalism something something.”) There are many holes, cracks, and fractures in the business of buying secondhand and while the industry of used goods has begun to “boom” as we face climate change head on, the ethics and morals of buying pre-owned has a long way to go. I look forward to using this platform to discuss what I have learned along the way as well as sharing written pieces, podcasts, studies, and organizations that more directly narrow in on the world surrounding secondhand.
There isn’t anything you have to do on your part as a subscriber with this new change. My archive will remain on my Substack page and links should redirect to the new domain as of this newsletter being sent! My only ask is…
If you’ve gotten something out of reading my newsletter and enjoy being in this space, please share it with someone you think may enjoy it! My goal as this community grows is to eventually offer paid content with a percentage of proceeds going to grassroots organizations that directly affect change in the world of secondhand. We are all just tiny baby humans trying to make it on this giant rock hurdling through space — we gotta protect this planet and help the people on it who need it most 🌎
Thank you, as always, for being here. I can’t thank you enough and hope you’ll stick around to watch this space grow.
I’ll be back in your inboxes Thursday (as Trash Panic) (check your spam folder if you don’t receive something by 12pm CT!) with a round up of *lots* of cool vintage shit from all over the internet.
Can’t wait!
xo,
G
happy dance!!!!!!!!!!
