10 Things - Dispatch #003
10 things I've read, loved, watched, wish listed, consumed, etc etc etc
Happy Friday! Let’s get into it.
Welcome to Crappie Lake - If you’ve been lamenting that reality TV hasn’t given us a good “rich girls get dirty” duo since Paris and Nicole, this is for you. Luann and Sonja are invited to revive the economy and ongoings of small town Benton, Illinois. It’s giving Schitt’s Creek, it’s giving Simple Life, it’s giving a lot of secondhand embarrassment in the best way possible. They’re the delusional duo you didn’t know you missed, but you did.
Diners, Drive-ins, and Disappointment. I am heartbroken, I will not be taking questions at this time. Thank you for respecting my privacy during this difficult time.
Paperofthepast on Instagram - Mandy collects scrapbooks and journals from the mid 1800s to 1940s and showcases her favorite pages and selections. It’s wildly inspiring if you’re looking to get into making scrapbooks, travel journals, or collect any kind of paper goods. I’m a paper hoarder and this has encouraged me to finally start getting things out of shoeboxes and into an album. It also makes me miss paper concert and movie tickets. Sigh.
Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer press tour looks. I know this man is absolutely miserable given that he hates red carpets (TikTok has been describing him as looking “constantly shell shocked” lol) and being in the public eye, but damn his fits have been very perfectly on point. The jury is out on whether he has a stylist or not because I refuse to spend $12 to read the Vogue article about it, but either way it’s nice to have variety in the “men’s red carpet fashion” department. Might have to rewatch Peaky Blinders this weekend for the 293487293847 time to tide me over until we see Oppenheimer next Sunday.
Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love - I watched this a few weekends ago and I’ve thought about it at least once a day since. From the cinematography, elaborate sets, to haunting soundtrack, it’s stylistically the perfect film. The color palette of reds and greens has had me hunting down Jadeite on eBay all week.
On this week’s episode of “Glenn’s Depressing Zillow Hunting” is my dream farmhouse that as of yesterday, is pending. This is particularly heartbreaking because it was in our budget/matched all our criteria but the timing of moving just isn’t quite there yet. And yes, we’ve been seriously considering upstate New York. More on that at a later date.
My Life in France by Julia Child and Adam Prud’Homme - I’m about 75% done with reading this and it’s been an absolute delight. The pandemic mixed with being unemployed launched me deep into cooking shows, cookbooks and exploring making more things from scratch. Though I’ve got a long way to go from being any sort of master chef, reading Child’s experience with becoming a chef later in life has been comforting. I also didn’t love my first experience in Paris and this book has made me reconsider my salty feels about France. That sounds wildly snooty but I’ve only been out of the country once and it was while working a soul sucking job that never left me alone and a record breaking heatwave across Europe. I was stressed, depressed, constipated, sweaty and miserable for a considerable portion of the trip lol
It’s been 11 years since Frank Ocean released “Channel Orange.” This is your sign to give it a front to back listen this weekend. I know the Coachella drama really soured the Frank Ocean love but he will always be one of my favorites and this album is a very specific, very emotional, very nostalgic time in my life. And if you need a little motivation today, just remember his tumblr letter to himself - it’s not too late to pursue your dreams!
Japanese Breakfast covering Sufjan Steven’s “Chicago” in Chicago - The amazing, perfect, adorable Michelle Zauner doing Sufjan, does it get any better? I wish there was a full video but I’ll settle for this TikTok clip.
Ambroxyde 17 by Le Labo - I am obsessed with this candle. It smells delightful, it’s strong but not too strong, and it lingers in the room for just the right amount of time. I have to remind myself to not keep it burning all the time because holy heck it’s expensive, but it’s worth it if you are looking for a “treat yo self” scent.
And thus concludes this week’s dispatch of open tabs. Let me know your thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc in the comments or reply to this email. Thank you for reading! Please consider sharing this with someone you think might enjoy it!
Until next week,
G
My condolences for the farmhouse, she was a beauty. ✨
I absolutely love these, Glenn. It’s like a treat, or slice of sunshine and I save them for when I have more than ten minutes to myself which is rare find so I think I have your last two queued up. I’m sitting enjoying coffee in silence and am positively delighted to read these. ♥️
